Why consider Sports Cupping?

As we know, people are getting sick more, even at a younger age.

Clearly the technology and modern medicine is not helping. There are a lot of natural solutions to the modern health problems but they are NOT being promoted as big pharma does not make money from it.

There are a lot of natural solutions to the modern health problems but they are NOT being promoted as big pharma does not make money from it.

Actually they try to suppress it and demonise it so the general public does not go towards the natural treatments.

One of the best natural treatments out there is the sunnah treatment called, Hijama Cupping Therapy. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said

"Hijama (Cupping) is the most helpful procedure for human beings to cure themselves." (Al Bukhari # 5357)

This sunnah treatment is so powerful that it can help with any big or small health problem.

Here is a list of some of problems it can easily help with:

  1. Headache
  2. Blood pressure
  3. Asthma
  4. Hear problems
  5. Arthritis
  6. Back pain
  7. Knee pain
  8. Memory problems
  9. Learning behaviours
  10. Muscular issues
  11. Digestive issues
  12. Fertility issues
  13. Diabetes
  14. Cancer

The list can easily go on and on but for now I just wanted to mention some of the common problems.

So what exactly is Cupping?

In any conversation about 'Cupping' - it is important to first distinguish which type of Cupping we are referring to, as they are very different in both practice and effect.

There are primarily TWO types of Cupping - Blood Cupping and Dry Cupping.

Blood Cupping (also referred to as Wet cupping) is defined by the removal of blood from the body. (Hijama is in this category).

Dry cupping is the type of Cupping that involves NO removal of blood. This is the type that has become visibly popular amongst Olympic athletes recently as it leaves circular marks on the skin.

History

Blood Cupping has been used for thousands of years. Although it is often associated with traditional Chinese Medicine, the entire world once knew this of therapy and used it. The Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Chinese used Cupping therapy. The oldest recorded medical textbook, Ebers Papyrus, written in approximately 1550 BCE in Egypt, mentions Cupping (Curtis, 2005).

In the UK, the practice of Cupping therapy also dates back a long time, as it was mentioned in one of the leading medical journals called 'The Lancet', founded in 1823. The word Lancet refers to the surgical instrument that can scrape the skin to perform blood cupping. Blood Cupping is the most frequently used, oldest and often the most effective method.

Hijama

'Hijama' in Arabic is derived from the word 'hajm' which means sucking. And it refers to the practice of Blood Cupping only.

Most Muslim Cupping therapists are trained for the Sunnah Cupping points on the body. This is the area on the back, in between the shoulder blades, slightly towards the neck.

There are many other Cupping points too to target different conditions. However for someone who just wants Hijama done to follow the Sunnah, the 'Sunnah points' are where the therapist will apply the cups.

How is Hijama Performed?

Acupuncturists, chiropractors, medical doctors, or physical therapists perform hijama. They will ask you to expose the area directly where hijama is needed and disinfect it with alcohol or any other antiseptic.

Then they will put a small incision on your skin before or after the application of a vacuum-filled cup over it. It can help ease pain due to muscle aches or other health conditions.

To produce a vacuum in a cup, the healthcare providers use fire due to alcohol, fabric, or herbs. They expose the cup with fire and readily remove it and put it over the skin. The blood is drawn towards your skin due to vacuum pressure. Hence toxins and impurities can be removed from surrounding organs and tissues too.

The cups can be made up of bamboo, silicone, glass, and earthware. There can be 3 to 5 cups in the first sitting. Over time, the therapist may increase it up to 5 to 7.

Hijama needs expertise. The person doing it needs to be gentle and fast at the same time. After some time, usually some minutes, they remove the cups and clean your skin. You will have circular bruises on your skin that may not be painful and resolve with time.

The skin becomes red because the blood vessels rupture. Finally, they apply any antibacterial or soothing ointment and cover the area with a bandage. An antibiotic ointment helps prevent infections of the skin that can occur due to incision.

Wet cupping is the most specialised type of cupping therapy. It is done in addition to fixed cupping to remove toxins directly from the body rather than letting the toxins drain out through the stool and urine. This is the most effective means to detox in most cases. A specially designed surgical blade is used in the process to gently scratch the top layer of skin to allow toxic blood to be released once suction is applied. This special surgical blade is designed to not leave any scars and to minimise pain (you’d be surprised at how little you feel!)

As wet cupping therapy involves the extraction of toxic blood from the body, it is vastly different to most other forms of therapy. So come in for an initial consultation first where we will let you try our wet cupping therapy for free!
